Compilations consist of the CPA creating financial statements based on the financial information supplied by the client. (CPAs cannot express any assurance on such statements.)

In a Review, the CPA applies analytical procedures to the client's financial statements and makes inquiries of management. While far less comprehensive than an audit, the CPA can express limited assurance as to the fairness of the presentation.
